1984

In the book 1984, the Party seems a little like some of the countries around the world that have dictators, and the people who live in those countries are controlled by fear of the military. Also in many of these countries if you were found trying to rebell against the military, then you would probably be put in jail and maybe even killed or tortured. Those consequences seem like the ones that are in the book 1984. So in both the book and these countries ran by a dictator seem to try to control every aspect of their citizens life.

  1. Yeah I would hate to live in a country where I lived in fear of the military. I would also hate if they government trid to control every aspect of my life like they did in the book 1984. Although, the government does control us in some ways, we still have a lot of freedom to do what we want.

  2. It is scary that this is Orwell's idea of what may happen in the future because I can't imagine the government having this much control over the people. They change history and there is nothing anyone can do that prove what has really happened and if they even try they will be killed. Also, I have thoughts that the people in the novel could get together and revolt but how many people would be needed to revolt against the government and actually get anything accomplished without them just being vaporized?

  3. I agree with you. There are many country's out there already in which their inhabitants fear their government and military. China for instance is still communist. Also before the fall of the Berlin wall Germany was undergoing a time similar to how Lasn portrayed the totalitarian society of Oceania. It is very sad where a country's civilians fear their own government. I am sure this exists even today in the United States. There are definitely people out there in America that fear the government. To me this is sad.

  5. I think what your comparison of 1984 with current dictatorships is pretty accurate. It is probably where George Orwell got the idea from. He saw that it could progress to this.
