The video we watched in class on thursday was very disturbing to me. I had no idea that advertisements had that big of a affect on women of our nation. In the majority of ads in the us it depicts women as either helpless, a need for men, easy, and a lot is center around sex. The lady in the video socked me when she said that 1 out 5 women in our nation has a eating disorder. I really think that this ads are really becoming a big problem. Im glad I watched that video, because I have gained some awareness about this advertisement problem.

  1. I also think that one of the main causes of eating disorders is the girls in ads and on modeling shows, they are basically telling girls that no guy will find them sexy or pretty if they don't look like every other stick-thin, over tanned girls with 10 pounds of makeup to make them 'look good'

  2. Once we acknowledge the problem--once we become aware of it--what responsibility do we have to address it or "make it right"? Any?

  3. I agree with your point. Many girls have eating disorders because of the models they see on TV and in magazines. They portray girls having to be skinny, flawless skin, and tall. I think it is wrong.

  4. We think that we have come far with changes of sexism but we have just changed it. Woman can do a lot now a days, but the way that men portray the ideal women is still the same. As women we want to please and these ads give us an idea on what we need to be.

  5. I am so with you guys..yes we talk about how far that we have come but yet...i feel like we just made it "down the street" from where we used to be rather than us being far from it. To comment on the fact that when we do become aware what happens after that? I think that we think about it and spread the word but thats it..it doesnt go any further than that

  6. I agree with you, and I believed that the video was somewhat disturbing to me as well. Women are thought of as objects, and thought to need men in order to be something. These ads really get to women and make them feel inadequate to every projected image of women in the magazines

  7. The videos we watched in class opened my eyes as well to the problem of sexism in America. I think that America has double standards for men and women, and men would never be shown in the light that women are, especially in these sexual advertisements.
